#school shooting mention

tbh i do get a little bothered by the notion that tim took the first shot he had to drop out of school because he hated school and didnt wanna do it and all of that bc i feel like it ignores the probably very important context that he dropped out after his dad (as well as steph-or at least, he was led to believe, in the same week) died, also he was in a school shooting. He did attempt to go to a school in bludhaven but the kids there were so wildly insensitive about the shooting that tim dropped out under the pretense of his "uncle" homeschooling him. In his oyl era, he /did/ go back to school, and it provided him some form of normalcy. Tim was a normal kid, he wasnt crazy about school but he still went to school and it helped him feel like a normal kid, something he desperately clung to. He only dropped out again to do his Brucequest, in an era where he was notably Not Doing Well (which. Yeah. he wasnt doing well bc he was like 17 and almost everyone in his support system was dead, he recently had hits put out on him, got blown up, and backstabbed by his not-dead-ex, he couldnt support his theory that bruce was alive and was extremely stressed about that, and he didnt know wtf he was doing. I love him btw.) Basically tim dropping out of school was a signifier that he wasnt doing well and he was giving up on the normality that he tried to cling to and im a bit of a nitpicky person who gets irked by minor things

deeply funny to see people complain about people being edgy in the postal fandom. Especially in regards to the first game. Like. Postal fans? Edgy? The 'guy who's either possessed by a demon or schizophrenic or both going on a genocidal rampage using exclusively guns, explosives and fire' game? The 'guy who tries and fails to shoot up a school' game? That game? The THE EARTH IS HUNGRY. IT'S HEART THROBS AND DEMANDS A CLEANSING game has edgy fans? Look, my local news stations have been running stories about school shootings pretty much 24/7 lately. The simple fact of the matter is that I am so, so tired of kids being murdered and the US is the only country in the world where this is the norm. I can't take it anymore. Things need to change.

idk why i feel the need to say or post this but i’m fucking terrified of school shootings. it’s not a crippling fear but the whole concept just makes me sick to my stomach. maybe i’m just paranoid because some other girls told me about a weird freshman guy who’s been talking about guns/shootings and how he would go about it (they reported it to teachers dw)

i also live in the south so it’s not like we have a bunch of high-tech funding for metal detectors and shit.

idk man it’s just fucking insane that someone would even think of doing something like that. humans really are the worst.

i pray that nothing like that will ever happen to me and i hope the same for you guys. i wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

I've got this idea in my head of Tim doing an interview for something Wayne related, and at the end of it the interviewer blindsides him by bringing up the anniversary of War Games/the shooting at his school, showing him a picture of Darla's corpse and asking him totally inappropriate questions

when my school had a shooter threat they just called in extra police officers and let us all stay in the cafeteria which is what the person specifically threatened but when we had a bomb threat they made us all leave our stuff and took us to the football field

One of the more bizzare moments in high school was while, in class, i looked up my school bc i needed its adress for a form and all the top results were about an active shooter event happening at that exact moment. At a school with the same name in Arizona

My... well, not "favorite" because it pisses me off actually, but one of the best examples my brain can quickly come up with for how breaking news can be factually wrong, and for just how impossible it can be to correct that information once it gets spread? It's how certain brands of (evangelical) Christians are completely convinced that the Columbine shooters were aiming to kill Christians specifically and that it proves there is an actual, meaningfully dangerous movement in the US to wipe out the Christians. Because one of those traumatized kids in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy told a story where he got some details mixed up about what happened between victim and shooter.

And so one student understandably responding to getting fucking shot by screaming, "Oh God! Oh God!" and getting mocked for it by her attacker is transformed into a tale of a (different) student being forced to choose between her life and her faith, and heroically choosing her faith. And now there's no fucking dislodging that story from the evangelical consciousness because it fits too well with the narrative they tell themselves about how they're actually so terribly oppressed.
